Dear Friends and Supporters

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of our cherished leader, Dr. Amde Meskel Amde, who served as the president of the Board of Directors at the Ethiopian Community Center in Maryland (ECCM).


He left us on February 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy filled with vision, compassion, and unwavering dedication to our mission. For over 14 years, Amde devoted his time, wisdom, and energy to strengthening the Ethiopian Community Center in Maryland and uplifting the community we serve.

Our Mission:

Provide reliable, quality, and accessible community services to all Ethiopians in Maryland, regardless of age, sex, or other social, economic or ideological differences; with the goal of promoting self-sufficiency, cultural enrichment, and understanding and appreciation of Ethiopian culture and history. ECCM will also serve as a center for safety and emergency response during accidents or during urgent need of community members

Our Vision:

Create a sense of identity, cultural awareness, and a center for information sharing for all Ethiopians and Ethiopian-Americans. ECCM’s will bringing together Ethiopian-Americans and other Americans of African origin residing in Maryland.
A strong, vibrant, self-sufficient Ethiopian community in Maryland where individuals and families are empowered, deeply connected, and able to thrive.

We are more than a community center — we are a home away from home for thousands of Ethiopian immigrants and families living in Maryland and the broader Washington, DC metropolitan area.

ECCM offers a comprehensive range of programs designed to support Ethiopian immigrants and families at every stage of their journey — from arrival and adjustment to long-term stability and community leadership.

Social Services

Immigration support, family services, crisis assistance, and community referrals for Ethiopian immigrants in Maryland.

Employment & Workforce

Resume building, job search assistance, workforce development, and career counseling to help you succeed.

Education & Youth

English language learning, adult education, youth academic support, and college preparation programs.

Cultural Programs

Ethiopian cultural events, youth culture education, and community celebrations to preserve our heritage
